Years ago, when he sat in this chair, our friend wore optimistic dreams for his future. He believed that he could settle into this place and grow in truth. Over time, he realized he had become rooted to a place with priorities different than his own. His optimism is fading. He knows he's a fool for staying, but is too cowardly to leave. He also knows that his time to fulfill his purpose is defined by the limits of his physical self, which is becoming weaker as time passes. He knows these truths in his heart and mind. Here, the stress of this knowledge takes its toll as his folly is unmasked and his life is uprooted.
