WIP - #NorthTowneBloom

If you’re in Albuquerque, head over to the site, have lunch at the Sandia Saloon, and take a selfie! #NorthTowneBloom makes a great background. The mural is located in the shopping plaza at the northwest corner of Wyoming and Academy, between Chico’s and Whole Foods.

Two weekends ago, I took a break from the Orpheum Community Hub mural to work on a collaboration with local artrepreneur Nikki Zabicki. You may remember that last summer Nikki and I created a signature mural, Blackbird Dreams of the Bosque, at Blackbird Coffeehouse in Old Town Albuquerque. That mural was seen on MurosABQ.com by a property manager at Weingarten Realty who invited us to create a mural for an exterior passage on their property at North Towne Plaza in Albuquerque. Nikki designed four showpieces in her unique, and joyful, contemporary New Mexico style from which Weingarten selected the mural design #NorthTowneBloom.

The mural took us four days to complete, but you can watch it happen in thirteen minutes in this edited time-lapse video of the process on YouTube.

I’m super grateful to Nikki Zabicki for bringing me in on this mural. Her professionalism and get it done attitude is inspiring. Special thanks to Mike at Weingarten Realty for giving us the opportunity to make this happy place for shoppers, and to the supportive, accommodating, and cheerful staff at Chico’s, Whole Foods, and U.S. Nails. Having a daily entourage of cheerleaders turned this project into a party!
