Aboulomania Process Video

People often ask how I create the texture in my paintings. They can't grasp the concept of washing a completed watercolor. This timelapse shows the three steps it takes to apply and rinse the top coat and to do the final detailing. After the top coat was rinsed, I removed any temporary masking and began detailing. I hadta paint in the flower tufts for the hemlock along the top, darken some shadows, detail hair, and clean up the gold border. When that was done, I added gold metallic water-based paint to the jewelry on the figure in the center panel.

For you watercolor color geeks, "Aboulomania" was painted on Arches 140 cold press using Winsor & Newton pro-grade translucent tube colors.
