A Birthday We Might've Missed

You may have seen this piece flash through social media a few months ago. I made it to honor my sister, and since her birthday is this week, I wanted to share it again. See, this is a birthday we weren't sure she'd get to when she was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer.  But she did, and it coulda been her faith, her doctors, her family, her desire to fish, or a totally random event in the universal roll of the dice. I'm thinkin it was all of it, and I don't much care for how, I'm just very grateful.

Remission is a watercolor on cotton rag paper that depicts the imagery my sister used as part of healing process.

We had some serious differences of opinion growing up and it took effort to be build our adult relationship.  (Gee, Sis, good thing you're not dead. We gotta get some mileage outta all that work.) I must admit, though, that even when we didn't get along, she helped me out of a coupla jams. She is the Goddess Diana of the Jersey shore, hunting, fishing, sharing, and caring. Her heart is big and her laugh infectious. She is my sunshine.

Happy birthday, Gi. FISH ON!
